Ground Preparation is the Important Part

Most people only see the finished concrete, but the real work is underneath it.

Before pouring concrete, we first excavate the area to the correct depth and remove any soft or unsuitable ground. We then install and compact a solid hardcore sub-base to create a stable foundation underneath the slab.

Without proper preparation underneath, concrete can crack or sink over time.

Depending on the job, we may also install:

• Weed-control membrane
• Reinforcement mesh
• Additional hardcore depth
• Drainage solutions if the area holds water

Every garden and every ground condition is different, especially across Cambridgeshire where ground conditions can vary massively from one area to another.

Reinforced Concrete Bases

For heavier structures such as garages, workshops or large outbuildings, reinforcement is often needed to increase strength and reduce the risk of cracking.

We install reinforcement mesh where required and make sure the slab thickness is suitable for the intended load.

Drainage is something that often gets overlooked with concrete bases.

If water can’t drain properly, it can pool around the slab and cause issues later on. We make sure the base is installed with the correct levels and fall where needed to help water run away properly.

Not every job has perfect access.
